Privacy policy (English)
This policy explains which data Falandês uses, what for, and what you can do about it. Falandês is free, has no ads and does not track you.
Who is responsible
The controller of your data is Michael Goldman, in the Netherlands. Contact: mikebgoldman95@gmail.com.
Which data we use
- Account: your name, your email address and your password (stored only as a hash, never as text). If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your email address, your name and an account identifier from them.
- Study: your progress, your answers in sessions and reviews, and the results of tests, unit tests and the final exam.
- Tests and exam: your written answers and the transcripts of your spoken answers, so you can see how they were graded.
- Recordings: in tests and the exam, a recording is sent for grading and deleted right after — it is not kept. Recordings from pronunciation practice never leave your device.
- Consent: when you gave or withdrew your consent to grading.
We use no ads, no usage analytics and no tracking, and we do not sell data.
Purposes and legal bases
- Providing the course and keeping your progress — performance of a contract (GDPR art. 6(1)(b)).
- Grading the spoken and written answers of tests and the exam — your consent (art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time in Ajustes (Settings).
- Protecting the service against abuse, for example by limiting sign-in attempts — legitimate interest (art. 6(1)(f)).
- Sending the password reset email you ask for — performance of a contract.
Who processes data for us
- Cloudflare: hosts this website and the course's audio files and connects the app to our server (tunnel and delivery network). It sees IP addresses and requests; it does not store your progress.
- Groq (USA): transcribes and assesses the spoken and written answers of tests and the exam, only with your consent — without it, nothing goes to the USA.
- Apple and Google: only if you choose to sign in with them.
- The email provider: delivers password reset emails.
What Groq says about this data (checked on 12 October 2026, console.groq.com/docs/your-data): “By default, Groq does not retain customer data for inference requests.” For reliability and abuse investigations Groq may log requests temporarily: “These logs are retained for up to 30 days, unless legally required to retain longer.”
Where the data is
The app's server and its database are in the Netherlands. The course's audio files, which hold no data about you, are stored at Cloudflare.
How long
- Your data is kept while your account exists. When you delete your account, the account and all progress are deleted at once.
- Recordings from tests and the exam: deleted right after grading.
- Backups: kept for 14 days; deleted data leaves them within 14 days.
Your rights
You can ask for access to your data, correct it (your name is in Ajustes), receive it in a readable format, restrict or object to its use, and withdraw your consent in Ajustes. To delete your account: Ajustes → Excluir conta, in the app or in the browser (https://falandes.app/excluir-conta). For any request, write to mikebgoldman95@gmail.com.
You can also complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).
Age
Falandês is for people aged 13 and over.
Cookies and data on your device
There is no cookie banner because we use only what is strictly necessary: one cookie that only says you are signed in (falandes_signed_in=1, so that this address opens the app instead of this home page); the sign-in token, stored in the browser or on the device (valid for 90 days and renewed when you use the app); and a copy of your progress on the device, so the app opens fast and works offline. Signing out removes the token and that copy.
Changes
